What are Antenatal classes?
Antenatal classes are educational sessions designed to prepare you for birth, feeding and life with your new baby. Research shows that when parents feel informed and supported before birth, it can positively influence their whole experience. Antenatal education has been linked to increased confidence in labour, a greater sense of control, higher rates of vaginal birth, improved breastfeeding outcomes, and lower levels of postnatal anxiety and low mood.
At its heart, antenatal education isn't about telling you what to do, it's about helping you feel calm, confident and capable as you step into birth and early parenthood.
Why should I choose Auntie-Natal?
Led by a Midwife with over 18 years experience, Auntie-Natal is an award-winning antenatal education service, created to give you honest, balanced and evidence-based preparation for birth and early parenthood.
We celebrate normal birth and the incredible things your body can do - but we also gently prepare you for the fact that birth doesn't always follow a script. Sometimes plans change, and understanding your options in advance can make all the difference.
At Auntie-Natal, we talk openly about both straightforward labour and the situations where extra support or intervention may be recommended. You'll learn what these involve, why they might happen, and how to navigate informed, meaningful conversations with your healthcare team. Knowledge builds confidence and confidence helps you feel calm and empowered, whatever direction your birth takes.
This is preparation that feels realistic, reassuring and supportive - never fear based.
How much does it cost?
The full 4-week Auntie-Natal antenatal course is £150 for face-to-face classes and £95 for the virtual course.
Your booking includes you and your chosen birth partner or support person to attend, all teaching sessions, and any supporting course materials provided.
Payment secures your place on your chosen course. If you have any questions about booking or payment options, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Who is this course suitable for?
Auntie-Natal is suitable for first-time parents as well as those growing their family who would like a refresher or a different experience from previous classes. It's ideal for anyone who wants balanced, evidence-based information in a supportive environment - whether you're planning a home birth, birth centre birth, hospital birth or an elective caesarean section.
We welcome all feeding choices and all birth preferences, and partners or birth supporters are encouraged to attend so you can feel prepared together.
If you're looking for honest preparation, practical tools and a calm space to ask questions, this course is for you.
When should I book on?
Most parents choose to book their antenatal course between 20-30 weeks of pregnancy, with the course itself usually starting around 26-34 weeks. The timing means the information feels relevant and fresh in your mind, while still giving you plenty of time to feel prepared and ask questions before baby arrives.
If you are unsure about timings, or you feel you're a little early or later than this window, please don't worry - just get in touch and we can find the best option for you.
Spaces are intentionally kept small to create a relaxed and supportive environment, so courses can fill up quickly. Booking earlier in your pregnancy is always recommended to secure your preferred dates.
What if I miss a week?
Life happens - and pregnancy can be unpredictable - so please don't worry if you're unable to attend a session. Where possible, we will provide a summary of the key topics covered so you don't feel left behind. You're also very welcome to get in touch with any questions about the content you've missed.
If you know in advance that you'll be unable to attend, just let us know and we'll do our best to support you.
Can I bring somebody with me?
Yes - your booking includes you and your chosen birth partner or support person. We actively encourage partners, co-parents or anyone who plans to support you during labour and early parenthood to attend. Birth is a team experience, and when your support person understands what's happening and how to advocate for you, it can make a real difference to how confident and prepared you both feel.
If your usual birth partner is unable to attend a session, you are very welcome to bring someone else along instead - such as a friend, sister or mum - so that you still feel supported.
If you have a specific situation you'd like to discuss, please feel free to get in touch - we're always happy to help.
